Chinese Ambassador Qin Gang urged the U.S. to coexist as one world with a common future

We can conclude from the hostilities in Ukraine that “there are no winners in conflicts and wars” and confrontation should be avoided, Qin Gang said

Chinese and Americans as residents of one world should listen to each other and seek a way to get along “on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Chinese Ambassador to the United States Qin Gang. He expressed this view in an article for the National Interest. Qin Gang expressed hope that the American people will make the right choice.

The 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, the ambassador recalled, affirmed that Beijing is committed to maintaining world peace and “building a community with a common future for humanity.”

“Seeing the world as a community with a common future naturally leads to reform, openness and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Qin Gang wrote.

According to the dieprepresentative, China’s strengthening does not mean a willingness to disrupt the status quo against the views of some countries. “The tension around the Taiwan Strait was not created by mainland China violating the status quo, but by separatists advocating Taiwan’s independence and outside forces that constantly challenge the status quo of a united China,” the diplomat noted.

Speaking of the military actions in Ukraine, Qin Gang noted that they offer lessons to be learned. From this we can conclude that “there are no winners in conflicts and wars,” that there are no easy solutions to a complex issue and that confrontation between major countries should be avoided, he wrote. The primary task, according to the ambassador, is to promote peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as well as dialogue between the United States, the EU, NATO and Russia. “In the long run, people must realize that basing their own security on the insecurity of other countries will not work. A balanced, effective and sustainable European security structure must be created. There is no other choice,” he is convinced.

Opposing democracy to authoritarianism leads to the division of the world, competition and conflict, while appreciating it as a community with a common future leads to openness and cooperation, Qin Gang pointed out. Therefore, China-US relations should not be reduced to one side being superior to the other or prospering at the expense of the other, he said.
